**PARIS** – Givenchy has announced the appointment of Sarah Burton as their new Creative Director for both women’s and men’s collections, effective immediately.
Burton, who previously held the same position at Alexander McQueen for two decades, expressed her excitement about “bringing her own vision, sensibility, and beliefs” to the luxury fashion house.
“It’s a great honor to be joining the beautiful house of Givenchy,” she stated, calling it “a jewel.” Her first collection for Givenchy will be unveiled during Paris Fashion Week next March.
This marks a significant moment for Givenchy, owned by the LVMH conglomerate. Burton becomes the eighth designer to helm the brand, founded in 1953 by Hubert de Givenchy, and only the second female creative director.
She follows in the footsteps of renowned designers, including Alexander McQueen himself, who previously held the position from 1996 to 2001.
Burton is best known for her work at Alexander McQueen, including the iconic wedding dress she designed for Kate, the Princess of Wales. Her departure from McQueen last year marked the end of an era, with the brand acknowledging her “indelible mark” on the company.
Givenchy’s recent appointment of a new CEO, Alessandro Valenti, in July, sets the stage for a new chapter under Burton’s creative direction. The fashion world eagerly awaits the debut of her first Givenchy collection next spring.
