**New York, NY** – Music legend Eminem will open the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards, airing live this Wednesday, Sept. 11, at 8 p.m. ET. The rapper will perform material from his latest album, “The Death of Slim Shady,” for the first time on television. Eminem is also a leading nominee for the night, vying for eight awards, including Artist of the Year, Video of the Year, Best Hip-Hop, and Song of the Summer for the album’s lead single, “Houdini.” If he wins even one award, he’ll become the most decorated male artist in VMAs history, surpassing Peter Gabriel.
Eminem has a storied history with the VMAs. His last performance was in 2022, when he joined Snoop Dogg for a rendition of “From the D 2 The LBC.” He also made a surprise appearance during Dr. Dre and Snoop’s VMA performance in 2012, opened the VMAs in 2010, and made his performance debut in 1999. But perhaps his most memorable moment came in 2000, with his performance of “Real Slim Shady” and “The Way I Am” alongside an army of 100 lookalikes, a performance that is now nominated for the new Most Iconic Performance award.
The 2024 VMAs are stacked with musical talent, including Sabrina Carpenter, Chappel Roan, Halsey, Karol G, LL Cool J, Shawn Mendes, Lisa, Rauw Alejandro, GloRilla, Anitta, and Benson Boone. Katy Perry will perform upon receiving the Video Vanguard award, and Megan Thee Stallion, who is also hosting the show, will also grace the stage.
