Sun Sep 08 11:30:26 UTC 2024: ## Assam Government May Recommend CBI Probe into Online Trading Scam
**Guwahati:** Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced that the state government may recommend a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the ongoing illegal online trading scam if needed. The announcement comes after police arrested 59 people in connection with the scam, issued 22 look-out circulars, and formed 14 Special Investigation Teams (SITs).
Reports suggest that several online trading companies were operating in the state without adhering to SEBI or Reserve Bank of India guidelines, causing significant financial losses to investors. While several traders associated with these companies have been arrested, many remain at large.
CM Sarma reassured the public that the Assam police have formed special investigation teams to investigate the illegal online trading cases. The Enforcement Directorate and the Income Tax Department have also been informed. District police are handling the cases at the district level, while the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) is monitoring the investigation at the headquarters level.
