Fri Sep 06 20:46:00 UTC 2024: – The Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts Physics Department is hosting K. Renee Horton as a speaker as part of a campaign supported by the American Institute of Physics Foundation
– Horton will present “Flying on a Rocket: How I Got There” at 5 p.m. on September 12 in the Feigenbaum Center for Science and Innovation
– Horton is the first African American to receive a doctorate in material science with a concentration in physics from the University of Alabama and currently serves as a NASA airworthiness deputy
– She has received numerous accolades and founded a nonprofit for STEM advocacy and mentoring
– Horton was elected president of the National Society of Black Physicists in 2016 and was elevated to a Fellow in the NSBP in 2017.
