Pakistan Backs China’s Claim of Mediating India-Pakistan Conflict During Operation Sindoor

Islamabad – Pakistan has publicly supported China’s assertion that it played a crucial role in de-escalating tensions between India and Pakistan during “Operation Sindoor” last May. This statement contradicts India’s repeated insistence that the conflict was resolved solely through direct communication between the Director Generals of Military Operations (DGMOs) of both countries, with no third-party intervention.

The conflict, which erupted after India launched “Operation Sindoor” on May 7th in response to the Pahalgam attack, saw intense clashes between the two nations before a ceasefire was agreed upon on May 10th.

Pakistan’s Foreign Office spokesperson, Tahir Andrabi, stated that Chinese leadership was in constant contact with both Pakistan and India during the crisis. “These contacts, characterized by a very positive diplomatic exchange, contributed in bringing down temperatures and bringing peace and security in the region,” Andrabi said, supporting Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi’s claim that China “mediated” the conflict.

Andrabi described China’s efforts as “diplomacy for peace… for prosperity, for security.” He further emphasized that these efforts were part of a broader international movement aimed at resolving the conflict.

India, however, has maintained a consistent stance against any third-party involvement in bilateral matters with Pakistan. This public disagreement highlights the differing perspectives on the events surrounding “Operation Sindoor” and the role of international actors in regional security. The conflict also spotlighted Pakistan’s reliance on Chinese defense technology, as Chinese hardware was employed during the clashes.
