SAN FRANCISCO, CA – Golden State Warriors veteran Draymond Green has weighed in on the recent altercation between Phoenix Suns center Mark Williams and New Orleans Pelicans guard Jose Alvarado, expressing his surprise and disappointment at the lack of immediate support Williams received from his teammates.

Alvarado received a two-game suspension for his role in the fight, while Williams was suspended for one game.

Speaking on “The Draymond Green Show,” Green stated he was shocked that Williams teammates did not act sooner to defend him, saying they just stood there looking surprised. He also expressed astonishment that the smaller Alvarado was able to land a punch on the much taller Williams. “Mark Williams didn’t look like he had ever been in a fight in his life,” Green remarked.

Green emphasized the importance of teammates showing solidarity during on-court incidents. He recounted advice from former teammate David West, urging players to immediately move toward any altercation, even if not to fight, but to provide support and prevent a potential gang-up. He also mentioned Kevon Looney as someone who must have hated the fact that it took so long for teammates to have Williams’ back.

This commentary comes amidst Green also drawing attention for removing himself from a heated situation with Warriors coach Steve Kerr during a recent game. Green defended his decision to leave the bench in the moment, citing his desire to avoid saying or doing anything he would later regret. He emphasized his personal growth in recognizing when to remove himself from volatile situations for the sake of both the team and his own well-being.

The Warriors are currently on a winning streak, having recently defeated the Charlotte Hornets 132-125.
