Bucks County Man Arrested After Wild High-Speed Chase, Multiple Crashes
BRISTOL TWP., Pa. – A 38-year-old Bristol Township man is behind bars after leading police on a dangerous series of high-speed chases through Bucks County on Tuesday. Ryan Laskowski is facing a long list of felony charges after allegedly striking multiple vehicles, including occupied cars and police cruisers, during the pursuits.
The ordeal began around 7:45 a.m. when Bristol Township police conducted a welfare check on Laskowski, who was in a rented U-Haul van near Bath Road and Veterans Highway. According to Lt. Mark Titus, Laskowski fled when officers attempted a traffic stop, hitting another vehicle in the process. Police terminated the initial pursuit.
Later, U-Haul reported the van stolen, prompting police to obtain an arrest warrant for Laskowski.
Around 3 p.m., officers located Laskowski in a McDonald’s parking lot on New Falls Road. Despite the presence of a marked patrol unit with activated lights, Laskowski allegedly sped off, leading to a second, more extensive chase.
“You don’t see stuff like this every day,” said Joseph Lepley, a witness who captured part of the chase on video as Laskowski sped down Veterans Highway.
The pursuit continued onto I-95 and into Bensalem, where Laskowski reportedly crashed into a vehicle driven by Rachel Kessler on Bensalem Boulevard. Ironically, Kessler is a records clerk for the Bristol Township Police Department. “We’re sitting at a red light and bam. Smash,” Kessler said. “We’re getting ready to file charges against some guy who then later hits me in the day, and now I’m a victim of his as well.”
Bensalem Public Safety Director William McVey stated that Laskowski also struck patrol vehicles belonging to a local officer and a Pennsylvania State Trooper. “This individual was a menace to everyone on the road today. He needed to be stopped. We’re thankful he didn’t kill anyone by his actions, which were egregious,” McVey said.
The chase finally ended around 3:30 p.m. at Bristol Road and Grandview Avenue when Laskowski crashed into a car carrying three people. “I’m proud of the work all police officers did putting their lives on the line, making sure we got this danger off the roadway today successfully,” McVey added.
Lt. Titus said, “We’re truly fortunate no serious injuries occurred.”
Police believe there may be additional hit-and-run victims and are urging anyone with damage or information to contact authorities in Bristol Township, Bensalem, or with the Pennsylvania State Police. Laskowski remains in custody and is awaiting arraignment on numerous charges.
