Renewed Deep-Sea Search Begins for Missing MH370
HANOI, VIETNAM – December 31, 2025 – A new deep-sea search for Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 commenced in the southern Indian Ocean on Wednesday, aiming to solve one of aviation’s biggest mysteries more than a decade after the jet vanished.
The Malaysian Transport Ministry confirmed that the search vessel, Armada 86 05, arrived at a designated area with two autonomous underwater vehicles. The location was not disclosed, however, the government said the vessel had prepared for the search in Fremantle Port in Western Australia. It is widely believed that the vessel belongs to Ocean Infinity, the Texas-based marine robotics firm contracted for the renewed search.
Ocean Infinity will conduct targeted searches of the seabed under a “no-find, no-fee” agreement, meaning payment is contingent on locating the missing aircraft. The company had previously searched the area in 2018 under a similar agreement, but found no trace of the plane. CEO Oliver Plunkett stated that the firm has since upgraded its technology and analysis.
MH370 disappeared on March 8, 2014, shortly after taking off from Kuala Lumpur for Beijing with 239 people on board. Satellite data suggested the aircraft veered off course and flew south towards the remote Indian Ocean, where it is believed to have crashed. Despite an extensive multinational search effort, the aircraft was never located. Debris believed to be from the plane later washed up on East African coasts and Indian Ocean islands, but the main wreckage and bodies were never recovered.
This renewed search represents a fresh attempt to bring closure to the families of those lost and to understand the circumstances surrounding the disappearance of MH370.
