Wed Dec 31 22:36:03 UTC 2025: ## Telangana Housing Boom: Affordable Housing Policy on the Horizon for 2026

Hyderabad, January 1, 2026: The year 2025 witnessed significant progress in providing housing for the poor in Telangana, with the Indiramma Housing scheme gaining traction. Driven by a government initiative offering ₹5 lakh in financial assistance, 2.47 lakh houses were grounded in rural areas, bringing hope to many families. However, the rising cost of construction materials remains a concern for beneficiaries eager to complete their homes.

Building on this momentum, the Telangana Housing Department is set to unveil an Affordable Housing Policy in 2026, targeting Lower Income Group (LIG) and Middle Income Group (MIG) families in urban areas. Housing and Revenue Minister, Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, has repeatedly emphasized the government’s commitment to addressing the housing needs of all segments of society.

During the Telangana Rising Global Summit 2025 in December, Housing Department Secretary, V.P. Gautham, highlighted the significant unmet demand for housing, citing figures of 20.33 lakh houses for LIG and 8.77 lakh for MIG in urban areas. Panelists emphasized that current private sector housing options are often unaffordable for these groups, suggesting smaller, more affordable one-bedroom units as a potential solution.

Mr. Gautham stated that the Affordable Housing Policy will aim to leverage private capital and increase efficiency in construction. The department has also been providing information on cost-effective construction materials to help beneficiaries keep their expenses within the ₹5 lakh budget, even showcasing model homes built within this constraint.

Furthermore, successful auctions and lucky draws for Housing Department flats and plots generated over ₹1,000 crore in revenue, which will be reinvested into future housing projects. The Telangana government’s proactive approach to housing underscores its commitment to providing affordable and accessible homes for all its citizens.
