Wed Dec 31 18:25:51 UTC 2025: Bengaluru Rings in 2026 with Jubilant, Yet Regulated, Celebrations
Bengaluru, December 31, 2025 (The Hindu) – Bengaluru welcomed the New Year with vibrant celebrations across the city, as revellers thronged popular hotspots while others opted for quieter, more intimate gatherings. The Central Business District (CBD), Indiranagar, and Koramangala were the epicenters of the festivities, pulsating with music, cheers, and dazzling lights as crowds danced and chanted to welcome 2026.
This year, Kalyan Nagar and Electronics City also experienced increased foot traffic. Law enforcement was highly visible, enforcing pre-planned restrictions and utilizing heat maps to deploy additional personnel to areas expected to draw large crowds. The use of loud horns was banned, and vendors were prohibited from selling them.
Interestingly, MG Road saw a smaller crowd compared to previous years, while Koramangala experienced significant congestion, with crowds arriving as early as 7 pm. Police responded by barricading several entry points to ensure safety. CBD roads remained open later than in previous years.
While street celebrations were prominent, many residents chose alternative ways to mark the occasion. In Yelahanka, residents organized late-night cricket and badminton tournaments within apartment complexes. Others opted for coffee sessions discussing literature or private gatherings with friends.
A key feature of this year’s security measures was the extensive deployment of civil defence personnel, who were stationed at entry and exit points, performing security checks. Pubs in the CBD were restricted from playing loud music, and police officials were seen enforcing regulations on floor capacity limits at establishments in areas like Brigade Road, Koramangala and Indiranagar citing concerns raised by recent events.
Despite the large crowds, the city largely welcomed the New Year without major incident. According to Pratham, a resto-bar owner in Koramangala, business has been thriving since Christmas.
