Time is Running Out: Link Your PAN and Aadhaar Cards Before Deadline or Face Consequences
New Delhi – With mere hours remaining, the Income Tax Department is issuing a final plea to all PAN card holders: Link your PAN with your Aadhaar card before the December 31, 2025, deadline or risk rendering your PAN inoperative.
The department warns that failure to comply will prevent individuals from using their PAN for vital financial and tax-related transactions. This means taxpayers will be unable to file income tax returns, claim refunds, or conduct high-value transactions without an active PAN.
For those who have procrastinated, a late fee of ₹1,000 is applicable before the linking process can be initiated. However, there’s an exception: PAN card holders who obtained their PAN after October 1, 2024, using their Aadhaar enrolment ID, are exempt from the penalty and can complete the linking free of charge until the deadline.
The process can be conveniently completed online through the income tax e-filing portal. Taxpayers need to log in, navigate to the ‘Link Aadhaar’ option, enter their PAN and Aadhaar details, and pay the applicable fee (if any) through the e-pay tax facility. Detailed instructions are available on the portal.
“Don’t wait until the last minute,” urged a spokesperson from the Income Tax Department. “Ensure your PAN and Aadhaar are linked to avoid any disruptions to your financial activities.”
Taxpayers can also check their linking status on the e-filing portal after completing the process.
