Aadhaar-PAN Linking Deadline Looms: Act Now or Face Inactive PAN
New Delhi: Indian taxpayers are urged to link their Aadhaar with their Permanent Account Number (PAN) before December 31, 2025, or risk having their PAN card rendered inactive, according to the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT). The mandate aims to ensure accountability in tax filing and streamline the process.
Starting January 1, 2026, unlinked PAN cards will become inactive, potentially disrupting access to various financial and tax-related services. The CBDT, under the Ministry of Finance, emphasizes the importance of this linkage for individuals who were allotted PAN using the Aadhaar enrolment ID submitted before October 1, 2024.
The Income Tax Department clarifies that users who apply for a new PAN Card after July 1, 2025, are required to have an Aadhaar card for verifying their PAN Card application.
How to Link Your Aadhaar and PAN:
- Visit the Income Tax e-filing portal: https://www.incometax.gov.in/iec/foportal/
- Under “Quick Links,” select “Link Aadhaar.”
- Enter your PAN and Aadhaar number, then click “Validate.”
- Enter your name (as on Aadhaar) and mobile number, then click “Link Aadhaar.”
- Enter the OTP sent to your phone and click “Validate.”
The request will be forwarded to UIDAI for validation. Note that a payment may be required to finalize the linking process. The e-filing portal will guide users through the e-Pay Tax option.
The Income Tax Department also clarified that taxpayers may receive communications related to transactions made by them.
Individuals experiencing difficulties or seeking further information can visit the Income Tax Department’s website or contact their support channels.
