Canucks New Additions Make Instant Impact, Pettersson Returns From Injury

VANCOUVER – As the holiday season winds down, the Vancouver Canucks are gearing up for a fresh start with a trio of new players acquired in a blockbuster trade with the Minnesota Wild. Forwards Marco Rossi and Liam Ohgren, along with defenceman Zeev Buium, joined the Canucks in exchange for star defenceman Quinn Hughes and Minnesota’s first-round pick in next summer’s draft.

The newcomers have quickly integrated into the team, contributing to an impressive 4-1-0 road trip prior to the holiday break. Ohgren in particular has shined, scoring two goals and one assist in his first five games, including a shootout winner against the Boston Bruins.

“It’s been a fresh start and I’ve been enjoying the games I’ve played. And just gotta keep going from there,” said Ohgren.

Adding to the positive momentum, centre Elias Pettersson is set to return to the lineup after being sidelined with an upper-body injury since December 5th. “It was just a lot of pain trying to shoot the puck. But it feels good now,” Pettersson stated.

Head coach Adam Foote acknowledged the significant impact Rossi has already had, stating, “He’s very intelligent. You guys saw it. He can make plays under pressure, and he can defend as well. So it’s a nice piece, for sure.”

While acknowledging the departure of Hughes, Pettersson emphasized the business side of hockey, saying, “It’s tough to lose him. A friend for a long time for me. But it’s a business, at the end of the day. Happy with the return we got, the players are looking good.”

The Canucks (15-18-3) will look to continue their momentum as they host the San Jose Sharks Saturday, with Pettersson expected to provide a significant boost to the lineup.
