Sun Dec 28 14:50:00 UTC 2025: ## India Women Set Sights on Series Sweep After Mammoth Score Against Sri Lanka

New Delhi, Sports Desk: The Indian Women’s Cricket team continued their dominant performance against Sri Lanka, posting a formidable 221/3 in the fourth T20 international. Having already clinched the series, the Indian side are now eyeing a clean sweep, while Sri Lanka are desperately seeking a face-saving victory.

Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to bowl, a decision they might be regretting after India’s explosive batting display. Openers Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana set the stage alight with a blistering 149-run partnership for the first wicket. Verma smashed a rapid 79 off 46 balls, studded with 12 fours and a six, while Mandhana followed suit with a stylish 80 off 48 deliveries, including 11 boundaries and 3 maximums.

The carnage didn’t end there. Wicket-keeper batter Richa Ghosh provided the late fireworks with a whirlwind unbeaten 40 off just 16 balls, hitting four fours and three sixes. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur chipped in with a quick-fire 16 off 10 balls to further propel India’s score.

Earlier in the innings, Smriti Mandhana reached a significant milestone, becoming the fourth woman and second Indian batter to reach 10,000 international runs.

Sri Lanka’s chase began aggressively, with Chamari Athapaththu and Hasini Perera adding 43 runs in the first three overs. However, facing a daunting target of 222, a big innings from captain Athapaththu will be crucial for the visitors to stay in the game.

With India making two changes to their lineup – Harleen Deol replacing Jemimah Rodrigues (ill) and Arundhati Reddy coming in for Kranti Gaud – the team looks well-balanced and determined to finish the series on a high note. The pressure is now on Sri Lanka to mount a strong response and avoid a whitewash.
