Chain-Snatching Trio Arrested in Puttur, Connected to Udupi Theft

Mangaluru, December 27, 2025 – Puttur police have apprehended three women from Tamil Nadu suspected of involvement in multiple chain-snatching incidents. The arrest follows a complaint filed by Yamuna, 67, who alleges that the women stole her 14-gram gold necklace at a temple in Kemminje village during a religious program on December 26th. Police identified and arrested Sheetal, 25, Kaliyamma, 42, and Mari, 40, all from Krishnagiri, Tamil Nadu, later that night. The women face charges under Section 303(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Authorities in Udupi have also linked the suspects to a similar theft at the Brahma Baidarkala Garadi in Hejamadi on December 24th, where they allegedly stole Sharada Poojary’s gold chain during a ritual.
