Fri Dec 26 01:24:13 UTC 2025: Jimmy Kimmel Warns UK Viewers of “Booming Tyranny” in Alternative Christmas Message Slamming Trump

London – U.S. talk show host Jimmy Kimmel used his platform in Channel 4’s “Alternative Christmas Message” to deliver a scathing critique of President Donald Trump, warning U.K. viewers about the rise of fascism in the United States. The message, broadcast on Christmas Day, focused on the perceived impact of Trump’s potential second term, with Kimmel accusing the president of acting like a “king.”

“From a fascism perspective, this has been a really great year,” Kimmel said, adding that “tyranny is booming over here.”

Channel 4, which has a tradition of broadcasting an alternative Christmas message since 1993, invites a prominent figure to deliver a “thought-provoking and personal reflection pertinent to the events of the year.” Previous speakers have included Edward Snowden and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

Kimmel’s appearance follows his recent suspension from ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” after controversial comments regarding the death of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. Trump celebrated the suspension, calling it “great news for America” and demanding similar action against other late-night hosts critical of him. The incident sparked debate about freedom of speech, with hundreds of Hollywood figures supporting Kimmel.

Kimmel addressed the controversy in his Christmas message, stating that a “Christmas miracle” occurred when people from across the political spectrum defended his right to free speech. “We won, the president lost, and now I’m back on the air every night giving the most powerful politician on earth a right and richly deserved bollocking,” he said.

Despite acknowledging the historical divide between the U.S. and the U.K., Kimmel emphasized their shared special relationship, urging the U.K. not to give up on the U.S. as it navigates current challenges. “Here in the United States right now, we are both figuratively and literally tearing down the structures of our democracy,” Kimmel lamented, citing attacks on the free press, science, medicine, and judicial independence. He also referenced the demolition of the White House’s East Wing. “We are a right mess, and we know this is also affecting you, and I just wanted to say sorry.”
