Camarillo, CA – A cab driver of Indian origin, Simranjit Singh Sekhon, 35, has been arrested and charged with the rape of an unconscious 21-year-old woman in Ventura County, California. The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest on December 15th following an investigation that began in November 2025.
According to police reports, Sekhon, a resident of Bakersfield, picked up the intoxicated victim from a bar in Thousand Oaks around 1:00 am on November 27th, with the intention of driving her home to Camarillo. The victim reportedly fell asleep during the ride. Investigators allege that despite completing the fare, Sekhon continued driving the unconscious woman around Camarillo and sexually assaulted her.
Sekhon is charged with the rape of an unconscious victim, with the aggravating factor of the victim being particularly vulnerable. He pleaded not guilty at his arraignment, and his bail has been set at $500,000. His next court appearance is scheduled for December 29th.
The Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Sexual Assault Unit believes Sekhon may have additional unreported victims and is urging anyone with information to come forward.
Authorities have not released the name of the rideshare company Sekhon was working for at the time of the alleged incident or details about his immigration status.
The arrest comes amidst heightened scrutiny of Indian-origin drivers in the United States and Canada, facing criticism related to traffic violations and driving under the influence.
