Bondi Beach Suspects Reportedly Hiding Out in Philippines Hotel Before Massacre
DAVAO CITY, PHILIPPINES – Sajid and Naveed Akram, the father-and-son duo suspected of carrying out the Bondi Beach mass shooting that claimed 15 lives, reportedly stayed in a budget hotel in Davao City, Philippines, for several weeks in November, according to staff at the GV Hotel.
Philippine immigration officials confirmed that the Akrams entered the Philippines on November 1, 2025, listing Davao as their final destination. They checked into room 315 of the GV Hotel, paying approximately $16 per night. Hotel staff described the men as reclusive, mainly staying in their room and only venturing out for short periods, often to search for the durian fruit.
“They weren’t approachable,” said Angelica Ytang, the night desk manager. “They typically only left their room for an hour or so each day.”
Staff only recognized the men after news reports of the Bondi Beach massacre surfaced. Janitor Ram Ligod noted that Naveed Akram had long hair during his stay.
Philippine authorities are investigating whether the Akrams used their time in the Philippines to receive extremist training in the southern Mindanao region, known for Islamist insurgencies. However, preliminary findings suggest there’s no concrete evidence to support these claims.
The Akrams left a tip for hotel staff upon departure, with Naveed reportedly insisting they keep it. “They were kind. I still can’t believe they were like that,” said Ytang, reflecting on the disturbing revelation.
Davao police are expected to release a statement regarding the investigation later today. The investigation is ongoing.
