JonBenét Ramsey Case Remains a Top Priority for Boulder Police Nearly 29 Years Later
Boulder, CO – Nearly 29 years after the tragic death of 6-year-old JonBenét Ramsey, the Boulder Police Department (BPD) reaffirmed its commitment to solving the unsolved murder. In a statement released Friday, Police Chief Stephen Redfearn emphasized that the case remains a top priority and urged anyone with information to come forward.
JonBenét was found murdered in her Boulder home on December 26, 1996, after her parents reported her missing and discovered a ransom note. Her autopsy revealed she had been sexually assaulted and strangled, with a fractured skull. DNA evidence from an unknown source was recovered from under her fingernails and in her underwear.
Chief Redfearn disclosed that investigators have actively pursued new leads in the past year, including collecting new evidence, conducting tests on existing evidence, and conducting new and re-interviews. Specific details about the evidence and individuals interviewed were not released.
“It is never too late for people with knowledge of this terrible crime to come forward,” Chief Redfearn stated. “I urge those responsible for this murder to contact us.”
The Ramsey family, including JonBenét’s parents and brother, were cleared as suspects in 2008. JonBenét’s mother, Patsy Ramsey, passed away in 2006. Chief Redfearn has met with the Ramsey family, expressing the shared goal of finding and bringing JonBenét’s murderer to justice.
