District officials are preparing to open Direct Procurement Centres (DPCs) to facilitate the purchase of paddy from farmers. A preliminary meeting involving agriculture, cooperative, marketing, and revenue departments, along with farmers, is scheduled for next week to determine the optimal number of DPCs required across 690 revenue villages. Officials estimate a yield of 5.8 tonnes per hectare for the Samba season, slightly lower than the Sornavari season’s 6 tonnes.

Farmer N. Vijayakumar of Ponneri noted that harvesting in his area would commence in January, coupled with green gram cultivation.
