LSU Men’s Basketball Returns to New Orleans for Compete 4 Cause Classic

NEW ORLEANS, LA – The LSU men’s basketball team is set to make its first appearance in New Orleans since 2012 this Saturday, December 16th, as they host SMU in the Compete 4 Cause Classic at the Smoothie King Center. Tip-off is scheduled for approximately 7:30 p.m. CT, following the LSU women’s game against Louisiana Tech at 5:00 p.m.

The men’s game will be broadcast on the SEC Network, with radio coverage on the LSU Sports Radio Network affiliates, including Eagle 98.1 FM in Baton Rouge. Chris Blair and former Coach John Brady will provide the commentary.

“We’re really excited about this opportunity,” said LSU Coach Matt McMahon, highlighting the quality of the SMU team and the chance for his players to compete in an NBA arena. The event also includes a community service component where LSU players will interact with local youth organizations.

The Tigers (8-1) are looking to bounce back from their first loss of the season against Texas Tech. They will face a tough SMU squad (9-1) boasting five starters who average double-figure scoring. McMahon emphasized the Mustangs’ strong backcourt and overall offensive firepower.

LSU will rely on point guard Dedan Thomas Jr., who leads the league in assists (6.33 per game) and averages 15.2 points. Mike Nwoko, averaging a team-best 16.0 points, looks to extend his double-figure scoring streak.

Following the game in New Orleans, LSU will return home for two final games before the holiday break, hosting Southeastern on December 19th and Prairie View on December 22nd. Tickets are available at LSUTix.net.
