Brown University Shooting Leaves Two Dead, Eight Injured; Manhunt Underway

Providence, RI – A shooting at Brown University on Saturday afternoon has left two people dead and eight others injured, sending the campus into lockdown and triggering a massive manhunt. The incident occurred around 4:05 pm local time in the Barus & Holley building, which houses the School of Engineering and the physics department, during final exams.

According to reports, a male suspect dressed in dark clothing opened fire, sending students scrambling for safety. One student, Jaden Anselmo, texted his mother, Shamsah Amersi, stating, “Mom, there’s a live shooting on campus. I’m going to run, and I love you.” Amersi told Fox News that she instructed her son to silence his phone, and he subsequently barricaded himself inside a supply closet with 12 other students.

Police officers are currently searching campus buildings and surrounding areas for the suspect, who was last seen leaving the engineering building where the shooting took place. The eight injured victims are reported to be in critical but stable condition. Mayor Brett Smiley declined to comment on whether the victims were students.

President Donald Trump has been briefed on the situation and stated on his social media platform, Truth Social, “I have been briefed on the shooting that took place at Brown University in Rhode Island. The FBI is on the scene.” Trump initially stated the suspect was in custody, but later clarified that the suspect was not in custody, citing university police.

The university remains under lockdown as the investigation continues. Authorities are urging anyone with information about the shooting to come forward.
