Sat Dec 13 19:30:00 UTC 2025: Arsenal Snatch Victory Over Wolves in Dramatic Own-Goal Finale
London, UK – Arsenal secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday, thanks to two own goals, the second in stoppage time, extending their lead at the top of the Premier League to five points.
The Gunners struggled to break down a determined Wolves side, who are languishing at the bottom of the table, still yet to find a win in 16 games, with their last victory being in April. Following last week’s loss at Aston Villa, Arsenal were initially frustrated, and it was Wolves who posed the greater threat in the first half.
The deadlock was broken in the 70th minute when a Bukayo Saka corner rebounded off Wolves goalkeeper Sam Johnstone and into the net for an own goal. The lead was short-lived, however, as Tolu Arokodare headed in an equaliser for Wolves in the 90th minute, seemingly earning his side a valuable point.
But drama ensued in the dying moments of the game. With seconds remaining, another Saka cross was met by the head of Wolves defender Yerson Mosquera, under pressure from Gabriel Jesus, who inadvertently directed the ball past his own keeper and sealing a fortunate win for Arsenal.
The victory comes at a cost for Arsenal, as Ben White had to be subbed off due to a hamstring injury, adding to their defensive woes.
Manchester City have the chance to close the gap on Arsenal to two points when they travel to Crystal Palace on Sunday. Meanwhile, Wolves’ struggles continue as their ninth successive defeat leaves them one game shy of tying Sheffield United’s record of 17 games without a win from the start of a Premier League season.
