Wrexham and Watford Set for Championship Clash: First Meeting in Over Two Decades

Wrexham, UK – December 13, 2025, 14:26 UK Time – Wrexham and Watford are poised to renew their rivalry in a highly anticipated Championship fixture this afternoon, marking their first encounter in any competition since April 1998. That match saw Watford secure a 1-0 victory courtesy of a goal from Jason Lee.

Historically, Watford has dominated their second-tier matchups, winning five of six encounters between 1979 and 1982, with Wrexham managing a single victory.

Wrexham, managed by Phil Parkinson, will be looking to continue their strong home form. They’ve won four of their last five league matches at home and are currently unbeaten in seven (W4 D3) since their defeat to QPR in September. Parkinson will deploy a 3-5-2 formation.

Conversely, Javier Gracia’s Watford side has struggled away from home, securing only one win in their last 15 league games (D4 L10), a 3-2 victory over Derby in November. They also have struggled to keep clean sheets, with just three in their last 34 away games. Watford are expected to line up in a 4-4-2 formation.

This match also sees a managerial reunion of sorts. Phil Parkinson will face Watford in a league game for the first time since March 2009, when his Charlton side lost 3-2 to a Watford team managed by Brendan Rodgers.

Lineups have been officially announced and players are currently warming up. All eyes are on the Racecourse Ground as these two teams battle for crucial Championship points.
