Indian Embassy Rescues Three Tamil Youths From Cybercrime Operation in Myanmar
Tiruchi, India – December 13, 2025 – The Indian Embassy in Yangon, Myanmar, has successfully rescued three young men from Tamil Nadu who were lured to the country under false pretenses and forced to participate in cybercrime activities. The youths, identified as Madhan Kumar, Chithirai Selvakumar, and Naveen Kumar from Thoothukudi and Virudhunagar districts, were promised employment in Cambodia but were instead trafficked to Myanmar.
Durai Vaiko, Member of Parliament from Tiruchi, announced the rescue after receiving confirmation from the Ministry of External Affairs. Mr. Vaiko had previously appealed to External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on behalf of the families, urging the government to intervene.
“I have received a communication from the office of Minister of External Affairs stating that the three Tamils have been rescued in Yangon following sustained efforts of the Indian Embassy with the support of the local officials in Myanmar,” stated Mr. Vaiko.
The Ministry’s communication confirmed that the rescue was a result of persistent efforts by the Indian Embassy, working in collaboration with local Myanmar officials. Authorities are now processing the necessary documentation to repatriate the three men back to India. The incident highlights the growing issue of individuals being fraudulently recruited for overseas jobs, only to be exploited in illicit cybercrime operations.
