Bengaluru, December 11, 2025 – Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) in Bengaluru has implemented a new lane segregation system and associated overstay charges at its Terminal 2 pick-up zone, effective today, December 11, 2025. The new measures are aimed at streamlining passenger movement, reducing congestion, and improving overall safety and convenience at the airport’s arrival areas.
Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL), the airport’s operator, stated that the system will be rolled out to Terminal 1 on December 13. The implementation had been initially planned for December 8 but was delayed due to recent disruptions to IndiGo flights.
Under the new rules, passengers and drivers will have eight minutes of free use of the pick-up zone. Overstaying between eight and 13 minutes will incur a charge of ₹150, while exceeding 13 minutes but remaining under 18 minutes will cost ₹300. Vehicles overstaying beyond 18 minutes will be towed to the nearest police station, and owners will be subject to applicable fines and towing charges.
“These measures are designed to streamline kerbside movement and enhance the overall landside experience for passengers and airport stakeholders,” a BIAL spokesperson said.
KIA, India’s third-largest airport, handles approximately 130,000 passengers and 100,000 vehicles daily, placing a significant strain on its landside facilities. BIAL hopes these changes will alleviate congestion and improve passenger flow.
The implementation coincides with ongoing IndiGo flight disruptions, which entered their tenth day today, resulting in 60 flight cancellations at KIA.
