Seoul, South Korea – The League of Legends KeSPA Cup, a historic competition now in its 10th year, has taken on unprecedented significance as teams vie for a chance to represent South Korea at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan. The tournament is being used as a key evaluation for potential national team selections, making it a crucial proving ground for aspiring players.
Nine of the twelve LCK and LCS teams participating are showcasing their anticipated 2026 rosters, offering fans a sneak peek at the upcoming season. Notable exceptions include Gen.G, DN Freecs, and KT Rolster, who are fielding their LCK Challengers or Academy players.
The 2025 KeSPA Cup features a diverse field of 14 teams: all ten LCK squads, two overseas all-star teams from Japan and Vietnam, and two invited LCS teams, Cloud9 and Team Liquid. The tournament structure consists of a single round-robin group stage with best-of-one matches. Group winners advance directly to the knockout stage, while runners-up compete in a last-chance qualifier. Subsequent rounds progress with best-of-three matches, culminating in a best-of-five final series.
After a hard-fought Last Chance Qualifier, Nongshim RedForce secured the final spot in the knockout stage, joining HLE, DK, and T1. The remaining teams represent the LCK. The North American teams are out of the competition.
During the group stage, HLE dominated Gen.G, while Cloud9 emerged victorious against BFX. Team Liquid suffered a crushing defeat against T1. DK’s Smash delivered a standout performance with a pentakill on Lucian.
On the first day of the group stage, Hanwha Life Esports emerged as a frontrunner, while Gen.G faced unexpected defeats due to fielding academy players. Lee “Scout” Ye-chan made a triumphant return to South Korean competition after nine years.
The tournament’s knockout stage promises intense matchups as teams battle for the KeSPA Cup title and a chance to prove their worth for the 2026 Asian Games.
