India Opts to Bowl, South Africa Off to a Blistering Start in 2nd T20I
Mullanpur, India – India won the toss and elected to bowl first in the second T20I against South Africa at the Mullanpur International Stadium. The home side has made three changes to their bowling attack, bringing in Varun Chakravarthy, Axar Patel, and Hardik Pandya. Yuvraj Singh, a local hero, was seen giving the team a pep talk before the match.
South Africa made three changes to their lineup as well. The Proteas are aiming for a strong comeback after a defeat in the first match.
Quinton de Kock came out firing, smashing a quickfire 34 off 18 balls, including three sixes, to propel South Africa to 53/1 in the powerplay. Arshdeep Singh, who opened the bowling for India, faced the brunt of De Kock’s assault. Jasprit Bumrah initially kept things tight, but De Kock later hit him for a six.
Varun Chakravarthy struck immediately after the powerplay, dismissing Reeza Hendricks (8) to give India their first breakthrough. Hendricks struggled to find his rhythm.
The Punjab Cricket Association honored Yuvraj Singh and Harmanpreet Kaur by naming stands after them at the stadium.
