Starlink India Launch Still Pending Approvals, Website Pricing a “Glitch”
New Delhi, India – Elon Musk’s Starlink has clarified that its Indian website is not yet live and service pricing shown earlier today was due to a configuration glitch, not the actual cost for Indian customers. Lauren Dreyer, Vice President of Starlink business operations, took to X to address the confusion, stating, “The Starlink India website is not live, service pricing for customers in India has not yet been announced, and we are not taking orders from customers in India.” She explained that “dummy test data” was briefly visible due to a technical error and has since been rectified.
The company is awaiting final regulatory approvals from India’s Department of Telecommunications (DoT) before launching services and the official website. Currently, the website indicates “pending regulatory approval” when Indian addresses are checked for connectivity.
Starlink aims to provide high-speed internet to underserved rural areas and remote locations in India. Leveraging its satellite network, the company promises a robust and reliable connection, boasting over 99.9% uptime and equipment designed to withstand various weather conditions. This could be a game-changer for students, small businesses, and local administrations in areas where traditional broadband infrastructure is lacking. While the exact launch date remains unknown, Starlink is eager to connect the people of India and remains focused on securing the necessary government approvals.
