Boston College Suffers Heartbreaking Overtime Loss to LSU

Chestnut Hill, MA – Boston College Eagles suffered another crushing defeat in overtime Wednesday night, falling to LSU 78-69 at Conte Forum. This marks their third overtime loss of the season, dropping their record to 4-5.

Despite a career-high performance from Luka Toews, who scored 14 points, the Eagles couldn’t close out the game. The first half saw LSU jump out to an early lead, fueled by offensive rebounds and second-chance points. Boston College fought back in the second half, with Toews and Jayden Hastings leading a charge that gave the Eagles their first lead of the game with six minutes remaining.

The Eagles maintained a narrow lead until the final minute, when an unfortunate turnover allowed LSU to tie the game with 21 seconds left. A missed shot by Toews at the buzzer sent the game into overtime, where BC’s offense stalled, and LSU capitalized, outscoring them 17-8.

“We’ve been in 3 of them this year, we’ve been very successful in them in the past. Some of it’s maybe youth, some experience, some of it’s who you’re playing against. Maybe some of it is panic, I don’t know. I have to ask my staff, do they see panic in us? I don’t think they see it, but we do panic. Again, it’s one of those situations where until you go through it, you don’t know how it feels.” said coach Earl Grant after the game. He also pointed to Toews’ inexperience in late-game situations as a factor in the loss.

The Eagles will look to regroup and address their overtime struggles as they move forward in the season.
