Sun Dec 07 15:31:56 UTC 2025: ## Israeli Efforts to Establish Puppet Rule in Gaza Dealt Blow with Death of Alleged Collaborator

Gaza – Efforts by Israel to establish a Palestinian administration in Gaza loyal to its occupation have suffered a significant setback following the death of Yasser Abu Shabab, a controversial figure accused of collaborating with Israeli forces. Abu Shabab’s death, reportedly amidst conflicting accounts involving Hamas and members of his own Tarabin tribe, has been widely celebrated in Gaza, underscoring the deep rejection of collaboration with Israel.

Abu Shabab had become a key figure in Israel’s efforts, allegedly providing safe passage for troops, searching for captives, targeting resistance members, and controlling aid distribution. Some reports indicated that he was even being considered for the position of governor of Rafah by the Israeli government.

However, the Tarabin tribe publicly denounced Abu Shabab as a collaborator, highlighting the widespread condemnation of his actions. The death of Abu Shabab signals a failure of Israel’s attempt to replicate the “village leagues” model previously used in the West Bank, where Israel funded and protected local leaders in exchange for loyalty.

Despite receiving financial and military backing from Israel, Abu Shabab failed to gain any legitimacy or support within Gaza. He was primarily able to recruit extremists, criminals, and those with a history of collaboration. The jubilation following his death demonstrates that Palestinians are unified in their rejection of collaboration with Israel, regardless of their views on other issues.

Abu Shabab’s death carries a powerful message: any collaborator is a target and no collaborator can achieve legitimacy.
