ASR District Tourist Spots Packed as Winter Chill Draws Crowds

PADERU, INDIA – December 7, 2025 – Tourist destinations in the Alluri Sitharama Raju (ASR) district are experiencing a major influx of visitors as the region embraces the winter season. With temperatures dropping significantly in recent days, popular sites like Borra Caves, Katika waterfalls, Ananthagiri coffee plantations, and Vanjangi Hill are seeing record numbers of tourists eager to enjoy the area’s scenic beauty.

“We’re seeing incredible numbers,” said Paderu Forest Range Officer A. Prema. “Locals believe when the ‘Meghala Kondalu’ [cloud formations] are clearer during peak winter, it attracts even more visitors.” Vanjangi Hill alone saw over 3,350 tourists on Sunday.

The surge in tourism has led to a spike in hotel rates, with most accommodations fully booked through the end of December. Many visitors are opting for tent accommodations at scenic locations.

However, the influx has also created challenges. The stretch between Ananthagiri and Araku is experiencing heavy traffic due to narrow roads and limited parking. The Araku–Koraput Passenger train departing Visakhapatnam is also fully booked for the remainder of the month, prompting calls for an additional morning train to accommodate the demand for the scenic rail journey.

G. Madugula recorded the district’s lowest temperature on Sunday at a chilly 5.3° Celsius. Other locations like Munchingputtu, Dumbriguda, and Araku Valley also recorded temperatures below 10° Celsius.

Authorities are urging visitors to be mindful of traffic conditions and plan their trips accordingly to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience.
