Sun Dec 07 05:20:00 UTC 2025: ## Sarah Squirm’s New HBO Special: A Gross-Out Comedy Oasis
Brooklyn, NY – Comedian Sarah Sherman, known on “Saturday Night Live” for her quirky characters and self-deprecating humor, is unleashing her alter ego, Sarah Squirm, in a new HBO comedy special, “Sarah Squirm: Live + in the Flesh.” The special, taped at Brooklyn’s Bell House, is a dive into the grotesque, featuring body horror, graphic imagery, and Sherman’s signature abrasive style.
The show opens with a jarring descent into a laryngeal canal, culminating in a monologue from a talking moon with acne-scarred features, before plunging into a graveyard scene filled with dismembered body parts and crude headstones. The special continues with Sherman’s unflinching examination of the human body, particularly her own, delving into topics like vaginal discharge, excessive sweating, and the spectrum of urination and defecation with graphic detail.
Sherman’s comedy, influenced by figures like John Waters and Joan Rivers, aims to challenge societal norms and expectations, particularly for women. In one segment, she projects a video featuring her nude body with exaggerated prosthetic features, turning her own perceived flaws into absurd spectacles.
While some audience members may find the comedy shocking or even off-putting, Sherman hopes to create a space where people can laugh and connect with their own bodies in a new way. “Laughing is a moment of identification,” she says, “You can trick people into understanding and connecting with you.”
The special also features a cameo from John Waters, who plays a stage manager disgusted by Sherman’s “goo” form. “We both try to startle people and make them laugh,” Waters explains. “We try to use humor to change people’s minds and make them accept stuff, but at the same time not preach to them in any way.”
“Sarah Squirm: Live + in the Flesh” promises to be a unique and boundary-pushing comedy experience that isn’t for the faint of heart. The release date is yet to be announced.
