[City, State] – Lottery fever is gripping the nation as the Powerball jackpot has climbed to an estimated $875 million, making it the second-largest prize of the year and the seventh-largest in the game’s history. The massive sum follows Saturday night’s drawing where no ticket matched all the winning numbers: 13, 14, 26, 28, 44, and Powerball 7.
Hopeful players have one more day to purchase their $2 tickets before the next drawing on Monday, December 8.
This jackpot is second only to the staggering $1.787 billion prize won in September, which was split between two lucky tickets in Missouri and Texas. The odds of hitting the jackpot remain a steep 1 in 292 million.
Winners will have the choice between a lump sum payment of $403.6 million or an annuity paid out in annual installments, both before taxes. Players select five white numbers between 1 and 69 and one red Powerball number between 1 and 26. The jackpot grows until a ticket matches all six numbers.
Since its inception in 1992, Powerball has generated an estimated $36 billion for charitable causes.
If someone wins Monday, it would be the 7th biggest payout in history.
