Coimbatore, India – December 7, 2025 – Coimbatore witnessed two significant marathon events on Sunday, December 7, 2025, each highlighting important causes. The 6th Edition of the “Run for Wheels” marathon, organized by Ganga Hospital and Sittruli Foundation, drew nearly 850 participants, including 150 wheelchair users, to promote inclusivity between able-bodied and para-athletes. Participants competed in various distances, from one to ten kilometers, and were awarded cash prizes. The event was flagged off by G. Soundararajan of CRI Pumps and Dr. S. Rajasekaran of Ganga Hospital. Following the marathon, a wheelchair basketball exhibition match showcased the skills and determination of differently-abled athletes, underscoring the need for accessible infrastructure.
Simultaneously, the Kovai Medical Center and Hospital (KMCH) held its 29th annual KMCH Kovai Marathon, focusing on paediatric cardiac care. This 16 km run attracted over 4,000 participants, including medical professionals and students, to raise awareness and funds for children’s heart health. District Superintendent of Police K. Karthikeyan flagged off the race, while Dr. Nalla G. Palaniswami, Chairman and Managing Director of KMCH, spoke about the marathon’s long-standing commitment to child heart health since 1991. Dr. Arun Palaniswami emphasized the importance of early detection, treatment, and education regarding paediatric cardiac conditions. Both marathons demonstrated Coimbatore’s commitment to community engagement and vital healthcare initiatives.
