Young Software Engineer Receives Life-Saving Kidney Transplant in Hyderabad
HYDERABAD, INDIA – December 6, 2025 – A 25-year-old software engineer in Hyderabad has received a successful kidney transplant at the Asian Institute of Nephrology and Urology (AINU), providing him with a new lease on life after battling chronic kidney disease. The transplant was made possible thanks to a selfless donation from the patient’s paternal uncle.
The young man, originally from the Konaseema region, began experiencing debilitating headaches and vomiting nearly two years ago. Medical evaluations revealed alarmingly high serum creatinine levels, leading to a diagnosis of chronic kidney disease. Despite extensive medical intervention, specialists determined that a kidney transplant was the only remaining course of action.
Unfortunately, neither of the patient’s parents were suitable donors due to pre-existing health conditions. His mother suffered from a stroke and hypertension, while his father had undergone bypass surgery and suffers from high blood pressure. With no other immediate family members able to donate, his paternal uncle stepped forward, offering his kidney and becoming the young man’s lifeline.
Dr. Srikanth Gundlapalli, Senior Consultant Nephrologist and Transplant Physician at AINU, who performed the transplant, noted the unusual nature of such a severe kidney condition in a young person with no apparent unhealthy habits. “Auto-immune conditions can occasionally trigger chronic kidney disease in young adults,” he explained.
The successful transplant offers hope for individuals battling kidney disease and underscores the importance of organ donation.
