Former NBA Champion Elden Campbell Dies at 57

Los Angeles – Former NBA center and 2004 champion with the Detroit Pistons, Elden Campbell, has passed away at the age of 57. The cause of death has not been officially released.

Campbell, drafted 27th overall by the Los Angeles Lakers in 1990, spent 15 seasons in the NBA. During his time with the Lakers, he recorded his best season in 1995/96, averaging 13.9 points and 2.6 blocks while starting all 82 regular-season games. He also played alongside Vlade Divac.

His career culminated in 2004 when he won an NBA championship with the Detroit Pistons as a reserve center, sharing the court with Darko Milicic. He played 65 regular-season games and 14 playoff games that season before returning to Detroit to finish his career in 2005.

Besides the Lakers and Pistons, Campbell also played for the New Jersey Nets, Seattle SuperSonics, and New Orleans/Charlotte Hornets. He averaged 10.3 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks per game throughout his career and currently ranks 35th on the NBA’s all-time blocked shots list.
