Bengaluru to Get Passport-Style E-Khata Centers, Roads Set for Major Overhaul
Bengaluru, India – December 6, 2025 – The Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) announced a series of major initiatives aimed at streamlining citizen services and upgrading the city’s infrastructure. Speaking at a press conference, GBA officials unveiled plans for new “passport-style” service centers designed to expedite the issuance of e-Khata certificates.
“This new system will replace the previous round-robin process, ensuring transparency and faster service for all citizens,” stated Tushar Giri Nath, Additional Chief Secretary, Urban Development Department.
In addition to service improvements, the GBA is aggressively tackling infrastructure issues. Chief Commissioner M. Maheshwar Rao reported that 22,539 potholes have been repaired to date. He also detailed a ₹4,800-crore road development program that includes white topping on 157 km and high-density corridor development of 79 km. The upgrades are expected to significantly reduce traffic congestion.
“All ongoing white topping and black topping works are expected to be completed by March 2026, with other tender-stage projects completed by June 2026,” said Mr. Rao. An exception is M.G. Road which only will get black topping due to the heavy traffic load.
After a two-year legal delay, the GBA has also invited tenders for 33 packages for solid waste collection and disposal in the city, a long-awaited step towards improving sanitation. These wide-ranging initiatives signal a major push by the GBA to enhance both the quality of life and efficiency of services for Bengaluru residents.
