IndiGo Cancels Over 400 Flights Amid Pilot Rostering Issues, Stranding Thousands

Mumbai, December 6, 2025 – Chaos continues to grip Indian airports as IndiGo, one of the country’s largest airlines, cancelled over 400 flights on Saturday, December 6th, impacting travel across major hubs including Bengaluru, Mumbai, Delhi, and Hyderabad. The cancellations, attributed to pilot rostering problems linked to recently implemented flight duty and rest period norms, follow a massive disruption on Friday where over 1,000 flights were grounded.

Bengaluru Airport saw 124 flights cancelled, while Mumbai faced 109 cancellations. Delhi and Hyderabad experienced 106 and 66 cancellations respectively. Pune, Jammu, and Srinagar Airports also faced significant disruptions.

The cancellations come just a day after IndiGo secured temporary relaxations in the new flight duty norms, initially opposed by the airline. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) provided temporary relief on Friday by rolling back the night duty definition to 12 a.m.-5 a.m. from 12 a.m.-6 a.m. earlier, and allowing its pilots to do six night-landings from two earlier, besides other relaxations.

IndiGo CEO Pieter Elbers, after several days of silence, issued an apology in a video message on Friday for the significant inconvenience caused to passengers. He had initially projected fewer than 1,000 cancellations for Saturday.

The ongoing disruptions have left thousands of passengers stranded and angered, with many expressing frustration over the lack of communication and alternative arrangements. While IndiGo has announced the resumption of some flights, the airline’s pilot rostering issues continue to plague operations, raising questions about the airline’s preparedness and the impact of the new flight duty regulations.
