UVA Basketball Faces Dayton in Charlotte, Looks to Continue Winning Ways

CHARLOTTE, NC – The University of Virginia (UVA) Cavaliers men’s basketball team (7-1) will face the Dayton Flyers (7-2) in a neutral site matchup in Charlotte’s Spectrum Center on Saturday. The Cavaliers are coming off a dominant 88-69 victory over Texas in the ACC/SEC Challenge, showcasing a strong defensive performance that saw them hold the Longhorns to just 27 first-half points.

This trip marks a return to Charlotte for UVA coach Ryan Odom, who was the coach of UMBC during their historic upset over Virginia in 2018 NCAA Tournament.

Dayton, led by coach Anthony Grant, boasts a balanced nine-man rotation featuring senior point guard Javon Bennett (16.0 ppg) and junior guard De’Shayne Montgomery (15.8 ppg). The Flyers’ size in the middle, with 7’1″ sophomore Amael L’Etang (13.0 ppg), will present a challenge for the Cavaliers.

Dayton’s defense is a key strength, ranking 38th nationally in adjusted defensive efficiency and 5th in defensive turnover percentage. However, their rebounding struggles could be exploited by UVA, which ranks second nationally in offensive rebounding. UVA averages 17.9 second-chance points per game.
