Ayodhya Remains Peaceful on Babri Masjid Demolition Anniversary Amidst Heightened Security

Ayodhya, UP – December 6, 2025 – Ayodhya observed a day of heightened security on Saturday, marking the 33rd anniversary of the demolition of the Babri Masjid. Police and security forces conducted flag marches and intensified checking across the city and other sensitive locations in Uttar Pradesh, including Varanasi and Mathura. Unlike previous years, there were no organized political or religious gatherings, a shift attributed to both administrative restrictions following the 2019 Supreme Court verdict and the passing of key figures from the dispute.

Superintendent of Police Chakrapani Tripathi emphasized the strict directives prohibiting public gatherings and rallies. Hotels were instructed to maintain detailed visitor records, and bomb and dog squads inspected railway stations.

While the BJP commemorated “Shaurya Diwas” online, paying tribute to those involved in the Ram Temple movement, the anniversary passed relatively quietly on the ground. Many prominent leaders associated with both the Ram Janmabhoomi movement and the Babri Masjid Action Committee are no longer alive.

Meanwhile, the five-acre plot allocated for a new mosque remains undeveloped. The initial mosque plan was rejected by the Ayodhya Development Authority (ADA), and a revised plan is expected to be submitted by the end of December. Zufar Faruqi, chairman of the Indo-Islamic Cultural Foundation (IICF), anticipates that the mosque project rollout, subject to ADA approval, could begin around April 2026. The IICF had decided to drop the futuristic, modern design after objections from the community over its design and is settling for a more conservative, traditional one.
