Maharashtra Congress Slams Mahayuti Government on First Anniversary, Alleges Failures and Corruption

Mumbai, December 5, 2025 – The Maharashtra Congress launched a scathing attack on the Mahayuti coalition government, led by the BJP, NCP, and Shiv Sena, as it marked its first year in office on Friday. Maharashtra Congress President Harshwardhan Sapkal accused the government of failing to deliver on key promises, widespread corruption, and neglecting critical public issues.

Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Sapkal highlighted the government’s alleged failure to provide adequate farm loan waivers and create jobs. He described the past year as one of “financial and intellectual bankruptcy.”

Sapkal raised serious concerns about alleged irregularities during the recent local body elections, specifically citing an incident in Salekasa Nagar Panchayat, Gondia district, where he claimed EVMs were reopened after polling hours for fresh voting. He demanded urgent intervention from the Election Commission and criticized the lack of an FIR being filed. The local body polls, held after a decade following a Supreme Court directive, were already marred by issues like bogus voting and flawed electoral rolls, he said. The Congress plans a rally in New Delhi on December 14 to protest against alleged vote manipulation.

The Congress president also criticized the government’s handling of the ₹33,000-crore relief package for farmers affected by heavy rains, claiming a lack of clarity in its implementation and a failure to seek central assistance.

Furthermore, Sapkal questioned the arrest of Shital Tejwani in the Pune land deal case, suggesting she was a scapegoat while no action was taken against Parth Pawar, son of Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar.

The Congress also took issue with the Nashik civic body’s plan to cut over 1,700 trees in Tapovan for the upcoming Kumbh Mela, citing environmental and religious concerns.
