Thu Dec 04 10:10:00 UTC 2025: IPL Mini-Auction: Over 1,300 Players Register, Maxwell a Notable Absence

Abu Dhabi – The Indian Premier League (IPL) mini-auction is set to take place in Abu Dhabi on December 16, with a staggering 1,355 players registering for the event. The comprehensive list includes 1,062 Indian and 293 overseas players vying for a coveted spot on one of the ten IPL franchises.

Mayank Agarwal, KS Bharat, Rahul Chahar, Ravi Bishnoi, Akash Deep, Deepak Hooda, Venkatesh Iyer, Sarfaraz Khan, Prithvi Shaw, and Umesh Yadav are among the top Indian names in the auction pool.

However, one glaring absence is veteran Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell. In a statement released via Instagram, Maxwell announced his decision to sit out this year’s auction, expressing gratitude for his 13 seasons and 141 games in the league. “After many unforgettable seasons in IPL, I’ve decided not to put my name into the auction this year,” Maxwell stated. “It’s a big call, and one I make with a lot of gratitude for everything this league has given me.”

Despite Maxwell’s absence, a strong contingent of international players is expected to attract significant interest. Australians Cameron Green, Matthew Short, and Steve Smith lead the charge, with even Josh Inglis, whose availability is uncertain due to his upcoming wedding, surprising his former franchise by entering the auction.

Other notable international names include England’s Jamie Smith and Jonny Bairstow, New Zealand’s Rachin Ravindra, Daryl Mitchell, and Devon Conway, and Sri Lanka’s Wanindu Hasaranga and Matheesha Pathirana.

Among the Indian players, Ravi Bishnoi and Venkatesh Iyer have set the highest base price of Rs 2 crore. A total of 43 overseas players fall into the Rs 2 crore bracket, including Green, the Smiths (Steve and Jamie), Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Naveen-ul-Haq, and Liam Livingstone.

With a collective purse of Rs 237.55 crore, the ten IPL franchises have 77 slots to fill, including 31 overseas positions. The Kolkata Knight Riders enter the auction with the largest purse, holding Rs 64.30 crore, followed by the Chennai Super Kings with Rs 43.40 crore.

Franchises have until December 3 to suggest additional names for the register and until December 5 to finalize the list for the auction. The upcoming mini-auction promises to be an exciting event, with intense bidding wars expected for top players as teams look to bolster their squads for the next season.
