Telangana Gig Workers Union Demands Better Conditions for Porter App Drivers
Hyderabad, India – December 4, 2025 – The Telangana Gig and Platform Workers Union (TGPWU) is calling for government intervention to address the deteriorating working conditions and unfair payment structures faced by drivers operating under the Porter App.
Shaik Salauddin, an office bearer for the TGPWU, stated that drivers are struggling with reduced earnings, penalties, and unresolved issues related to the platform’s payment system. The union highlights the financial difficulties faced by drivers due to reduced payouts, coupled with high fuel costs.
The TGPWU is demanding the implementation of a per-kilometer rate for drivers and the provision of cancellation charges when customers cancel trips. They are also seeking a transparent and accessible grievance redressal system within the Porter App, allowing drivers adequate notice, an opportunity to respond to complaints, and swift resolution of toll charges.
According to the TGPWU, the current system is driving drivers into debt and financial insecurity. They have requested a meeting with Porter representatives within seven days to discuss these demands and find a resolution to the pressing issues.
