Jaiswal Struggles Continue in ODI Format; Jansen Exploits Left-Arm Pace Weakness

Raipur, India – Promising Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal’s struggles in the One Day International (ODI) format continued during the second ODI against South Africa in Raipur. Despite excelling in Test and T20 cricket, Jaiswal has failed to replicate that success in the 50-over format, raising questions about his future in the ODI squad.

In the Raipur match, Jaiswal fell victim to South African left-arm pacer Marco Jansen, adding to his already concerning record against left-arm fast bowlers. He was dismissed for 22 runs after a promising start. Notably, Jansen has dismissed Jaiswal four times in his last six matches for India, five of those dismissals have been by a left handed bowler.

Jaiswal’s overall ODI record is lackluster, with just 55 runs scored in three innings and a high score of 22. Given these figures, speculation is mounting that Jaiswal could be dropped from the squad for the third ODI on December 6th.

This stands in stark contrast to his established success in the Test and T20I formats, where he has already represented India in 28 Test matches and 23 T20 Internationals. The question remains: Can Jaiswal overcome his struggles in the ODI format, or will his weakness against left-arm pace lead to his exclusion from the team?
