New Delhi, December 1, 2025 – Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reaffirmed India’s unwavering support to Sri Lanka as the island nation grapples with the aftermath of Cyclone Ditwah. In a telephone conversation with Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake on Monday, Modi expressed heartfelt condolences for the loss of life and widespread devastation.
India has launched “Operation Sagar Bandhu” to provide immediate humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HADR). This includes deploying INS Vikrant, INS Udaygiri, MI-17 helicopters, and NDRF teams for search and rescue operations. So far, India has provided 53 tonnes of relief material.
The ongoing operation has already rescued nationals from Sri Lanka, India, and several other countries.
