J&K Government Proposes Age Relaxation for Job Seekers Amid Recruitment Delays

SRINAGAR, J&K – December 3, 2025 – The Jammu & Kashmir government has submitted a proposal to Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha seeking to relax age limits for job aspirants in the Union Territory (UT). The move comes after significant delays in recruitment processes following the revocation of J&K’s special status in 2019.

National Conference (NC) leader and legislator Tanvir Sadiq stated that the proposal has been approved by the Chief Minister’s Secretariat and forwarded to the Lieutenant Governor’s office for final consent.

Job seekers have voiced concerns regarding the cancellation of numerous selection lists and prolonged legal battles that have hindered the recruitment process. They also claim that recruitment has been slow under the Lieutenant Governor’s administration.

The delays are attributed to administrative restructuring, changes in service rules, and ongoing litigation that followed the central government’s decision to revoke J&K’s special status. The proposed age relaxation aims to address the disadvantages faced by those who may have aged out of eligibility during the period of disruption. The Lieutenant Governor’s decision on the proposal is pending.
