The process follows the government’s ordinance to merge 27 municipalities and corporations into the GHMC, which has now received the Governor’s approval.
Town Planning officials and election staff are currently engaged in intensive meetings at the Marri Chenna Reddy Human Resources Development Institute of Telangana to redraw division boundaries. Sources indicate that the GHMC, which currently comprises 150 divisions, is expected to gain at least 100 more following the delimitation exercise.
The redrawing of boundaries is based on clustering voters into groups of approximately 25,000. These clusters will be aggregated using existing district, parliamentary, and assembly constituency boundaries to form the new divisions.
The total population within the expanded GHMC is projected to be approximately 1.3 crore, based on figures from the 2011 Census.
