Wed Dec 03 09:10:00 UTC 2025: ## Bay Area Braces for King Tides, Coastal Flood Advisory in Effect
San Francisco, CA – December 1, 2025 (CBS SF) – A coastal flood advisory is in effect for low-lying areas of the San Francisco Bay Area from Tuesday, December 2nd, through Sunday, December 7th, due to anticipated King Tides, among the highest tides of the year. The National Weather Service issued the advisory, warning of potential minor flooding of lots, parks, and roads along the San Francisco Bay shoreline and the North Bay interior valleys.
The King Tides, caused by the alignment of the sun, moon, and earth’s gravitational pull, are expected to cause tides roughly one foot above normal during high tide throughout the week. Specific high tide times in San Francisco are: Tuesday at 8:24 a.m., Wednesday at 9:04 a.m., Thursday at 9:48 a.m., Friday at 10:35 a.m., Saturday at 11:25 a.m., and Sunday at 12:17 p.m. Forecasters note that high tide times can vary by up to 90 minutes along the Pacific Coast and throughout the Bay.
The California Coastal Commission warns that King Tides can exacerbate the impact of floods and storms, potentially causing significant damage to the coastline and coastal property.
Adding to the coastal concerns, a beach hazard statement remains in effect for the coastline between Sonoma and Monterey County through Wednesday evening. Forecasters are predicting breaking waves of 10 to 14 feet, along with the risk of sneaker waves and rip currents. The public is strongly urged to exercise extreme caution when visiting coastal areas, avoiding rocks and jetties altogether.
Residents and visitors are advised to stay informed of the latest weather updates and take necessary precautions to protect themselves and their property.
