Wed Dec 03 11:00:00 UTC 2025: India Drops Sundar, Pant Set to Replace Him in Remaining ODIs Against South Africa
Raipur, India – 03 Dec 2025, 09:04 AM – Following India’s 17-run victory over South Africa in the first ODI, the team management has made a significant change to the squad for the remaining two matches. All-rounder Washington Sundar has been dropped after a disappointing performance in the first match, with Rishabh Pant poised to take his place at number five in the batting order.
Sundar’s lackluster contribution in Ranchi, scoring only 13 runs and failing to take any wickets in his three overs, has led to the decision. Coach Gautam Gambhir is reportedly keen to give Pant a chance to prove his worth in the middle order.
Pant, who last played an ODI against Sri Lanka in August of last year, has been sidelined with injury since then. However, his impressive ODI record, including 871 runs at an average of 33.5 with one century and five half-centuries, makes him a strong contender to bolster India’s batting lineup. His aggressive strike rate of 106.22 also adds another dimension to the team’s approach.
The remaining two ODIs are scheduled to take place in Raipur today at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh Stadium, which is hosting an international match after a long hiatus and Visakhapatnam on December 6th. The squad is expected to be: Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Tilak Verma, Rishabh Pant, K. L. Rahul (Captain and Wicket-keeper), Ravindra Jadeja, Harshit Rana, Arshdeep Singh, Kuldeep Yadav, Prasidh Krishna. Fans are eagerly anticipating these matches as India looks to seal the series victory.
